Vision and Values

Our school vision is:

Where every child shines

“Let your light shine before men, that they might see your good works, and glorify your Father in Heaven” Matthew 5:16

Our vision reminds us of the importance of our actions. Our actions allow us to let our light shine.

Jesus said “I am the light of the world” (John 8.12) and as he spoke to those around him said “you are the light of the world” as we aim to follow Jesus in our lives. The vision was developed through this aspirational lens where all God’s children are called to “give glory” to our Father in heaven through our “good works” as our actions. Where we see light as knowledge, illumination and intelligence, our ethos and actions are important for us to let our light shine and to share the light of Jesus with those around us.

Our vision is rooted in this theology and reflects both the Trust’s vision of Learning for life and the Leicestershire Diocesan Board of Education vision of ‘Transforming the lives of children and young people’. Our vision linked to the gospel reference reflects the context of the school as a beacon of hope, a light on a hill (literally) for those within the school and outside the school, for the future and as custodians of God’s world within our rural village community.

The most recent Ofsted report (September 2023) described the school as a “small school with a big heart where everyone is respected”.

Our school has an accepting, nurturing and inclusive attitude towards others and we create a loving and safe environment for our children and staff guided by God. In our nurturing way we aspire for everyone to be the best they can be that God intended us to be.

How we promote flourishing in school

Our unique environment, rooted in our Christian vision and values creates a community where every individual, both adult and pupil, not only grows but truly flourishes. Our vision guides our approach to mental well-being, professional growth and fosters a deep sense of belonging for everyone. We create an environment where values can be authentically woven into the school’s daily life and curriculum, to ensure everyone feels safe, supported, and equipped to manage their emotions to transform their individual learning journey.

Our purposeful curriculum is designed to connect knowledge to meaning; pupils are invited to see the world through a lens of curiosity and compassion. Teachers understand how children learn and design lessons to ensure knowledge is secured and built upon. We foster joyful learning environments and ensure there are opportunities for movement, storytelling, and hands-on exploration and ensure that teaching is inclusive and adapted, so that children’s needs are met. Through wellbeing and ELSA, we introduce age-appropriate mindfulness exercises and quiet reflection time to help children self-regulate to reduce anxiety, promoting inner peace.

Our school fosters a culture where staff feel comfortable and are able to discuss and seek support from colleagues knowing that their well-being is a priority. We acknowledge the hard work and dedication of staff, express gratitude and celebrate successes, mirroring the grace found within the Kingdom of God as they enrich and transform the lives of others to inspire, challenge, and care for their pupils. As our teachers understand diverse learning needs, they directly contribute to children’s ability to flourish.

Serving as a governor is a calling to steward the school’s vision with integrity and care ensuring diverse voices are heard and respected. It reflects peace through thoughtful leadership and strategic planning. Governors ensure that our Christian vision remains to create a safe, purposeful environment for all. Parent governors bring lived experience into strategic conversations, governors flourish as they grow in wisdom, influence, and spiritual leadership serving the whole school family. We also value the role that other volunteers play in our school as they model service and build meaningful relationships with staff and pupils so that every child is surrounded by a wider circle of care and deepen their connection with the joy of giving to our school community.

The Friends of Arnesby (PTA) help to shape the school’s journey, share ideas, and co-create experiences that enrich the lives of our pupils. Through fundraising events like fairs, discos, or sponsored challenges they use their talents for a shared purpose, bringing joy and social opportunities while raising funds which enrich and transform the lives of the school community.
